Bicycle Trails
Council of Marin and
Access4Bikes
have launched a campaign to promote programs that encourage mountain
bikers, equestrians and hikers to Share the Trail.
With the increasing popularity of mountain biking, it is necessary
to remind Marin County residents and visitors that it is imperative
for all of us to be responsible trail users.
The primary focus of this campaign will be to educate mountain
bikers, emphasizing the importance of changing our habits in an
effort to gain more acceptance on our public lands. The campaign has
many components, including information stations, signage, workshops,
group rides and a web site.
-
Share the Trail Outposts (information stations) will be set up
at multi-use trails and mountain bike gathering places, to hand
out maps, stickers and energy bars. The maps and stickers will
have rules and courtesy information on the backsides, which will
put important information in the hands of mountain bikers.
-
New “Share the Trail” signs will be installed at trailheads
throughout Marin.
-
Workshops will bring park users together in an effort to
identify differing points of view and find common ground on
which we can build.
-
Group rides will highlight the history and natural aesthetic of
Marin's multi-use trails. A web site will promote the rules and
courtesy on single-track trails for mountain bikes and will have
a place for trail users to report incidents. Email newsletters
will inform people about events, trail work, upcoming rides and
calls to action. Newsletters will also suggest ways to avoid
trail conflicts.
